Filming
Phil is an experienced Producer, Director Cameraman with solid filming credits and a proven track record of working in challenging and extreme environments for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Discovery International and National Geographic Television.


He has worked on assignment across the world in over forty countries, across seven continents and across a range of genres including prime time documentaries, factual entertainment, observational reality shows and sponsor funded expeditions. Phil’s location filming work is built on a solid foundation in production and production logistics and while working at the BBC Natural History Unit and BBC Science & Features.

Documentary, features, mountain and remote location work, adventure travel, health and safety, abseiling and rope-access. Phil is an IRATA qualified rope access technician, a fully qualified International Mountain Leader and a member of the Guild of Television cameramen.

Associate Producer & Behind The Scenes Location Camera on ‘Going North’ a documentary series following ‘Project Inland Ice’ an ambitious attempt to cross the Greenland Ice Cap raising awareness of climate change in the process. Phil’s multitasking role also involved coordinating logistics and safety for the production. A co-production with Deepeei Productions. TIGRESS PRODUCTIONS / DISCOVERY CHANNEL
Location Director Cameraman on series 2 of ‘Everest Beyond The Limit’ shooting for 8 weeks on location on the Tibetan side of Everest up to 8,000m down to minus 18°C. This land mark series follows the trials and tribulations of an international expedition as they attempted to climb the highest mountain on earth. ANTARCTICA
Location Director Cameraman shooting stock footage and stills during the International Polar Year 2007 / 2008. Worked as a Field Guide for the British Antarctic Survey safeguarding international research scientists in the field and completed comprehensive training in polar survival, travel and advanced first aid with paramedic skills. Location Director / Cameraman on ‘Blizzard Race to The Pole’, a 6 part BBC2 / History Channel series in shot in arctic Greenland. Work involved filming (and sound recording) the Scott and Amundsen teams and travelling on the ice cap over 11 weeks in temperatures down to minus 35°C. Producer / Director / Cameraman on the documentary special ‘Ice Break Heart’ following Peter Bland’s quest to be the first Australian to walk to the Magnetic North Pole. Location Cameraman on ‘Challenge 8000’ following Al Hinkes’ quest to be the first Britain to climb all 14 8,000m peaks. Work involved climbing up to 7,000m on Makalu (8,463m), Nepal and filming and photographing Alan as he attempted the fifth highest mountain in the world. Broadcaster YTV / C4 – TX 1997 /1998

GIRLS ON TOP
Development / Location Filming Consultant on a British women’s attempt to walk the full 450 miles to the Geographic North Pole. Team members Lucy Roberts and Victoria Riches were both on the successful British McVite’s Penguin Polar Relay, which reached the North Pole in 1997.
